Maclean Park Kiosk, Paraparaumu

Updated 14 September 2018

The upgrade of Maclean Park in Paraparaumu will involve the removal of the iconic kiosk.  While the Kapiti Coast District Council process has involved public consultation, there has been a strong public reaction to recent news that the removal will occur in the coming weeks.  Beach FM also conducted a straw poll to measure the depth of public feeling about the kiosk, while not technically robust, the result contrasts sharply with the findings of the Kapiti Coast District Council consultation process.

This is a summary of the Beach FM coverage and relevant KCDC documents.  (Note that some radio interviews may contain a number of topics or have sound quality issues),

Summary of Beach FM Facebook Poll

The Beach FM Facebook straw poll was posted on 5 September 2018 and was closed on 11 September, achieving 1,700 votes.  75% voted for the kiosk to remain and only 25% were in favour of it being removed.  Although the poll was unofficial and not highly scientific, the result contrasts sharply with the KCDC consultation process that suggested only 2% of submissions wanted to keep the kiosk.
