Mana and Otaki MPs are lobbying the Minister for Regional Economic Development for marketing funds to promote the ‘treasures’ of the Kapiti Coast and Horowhenua.
In the wake of the Air New Zealand decision to withdraw its Kapiti to Auckland air service, the local MPs say it’s vital that more is done to promote the region.
MP for Otaki Nathan Guy says that if Air Chathams takes on the Paraparaumu to Auckland route being vacated by our national carrier, it’s important that more is done to promote the service, and the region generally.
Guy says, it’s not just about ensuring that local residents can travel north, it’s also about enticing Aucklanders to the region to “share the treasure of Kapiti Island, to play a round of golf, to enjoy our beaches, our food and beverages.”
Mana MP Kris Faafoi spoke with Minister Shane Jones about the matter last week.
He says the Minister has the money through the regional economic development fund and that we need to put on more pressure to convince him to support regional marketing efforts.
