The Paraparaumu Beach Saturday Morning Market will be relocating later in the year.
Contrary to some misinformed speculation, the market is not closing down but will be moving to accommodate a boutique hotel and apartment development.
Market Co-owner Warwick Halcrow says there is a “serious desire to retain the market at Paraparaumu Beach” but the question is where to move.
It’s expected that the Paraparaumu-Raumati Community Board will support retaining the market on the beach, when it discusses the matter tonight (Tuesday 27 March).
Halcrow says one option is moving to MacLean Park, which will be “fantastic on a good day but not too good” when there’s bad weather.
The market owners are also pitching the idea of going on to MacLean Street, between Marine Parade and Seaview Road, which would require closing the road.
Halcrow says shutting down MacLean Street would impact traffic flows and would need the majority of local businesses to support the idea but now is the time to start discussing the proposal.
