Waterfall Road Reopening

May 5, 2018

The Kāpiti Coast District Council will re-open Waterfall Road to traffic and pedestrians this weekend, after six weeks of work to fix the major slip that closed the road in September last year.

Group Manager Infrastructure Services Sean Mallon says this is great news for residents in the area, and it’s great to have completed the job ahead of schedule.

He says they’ve worked closely with geotechnical experts to stabilise the slip face and moved an estimated 9,500m3, which is roughly what it would take to fill around six main-sized pools at our Aquatic Centre.

Waterfall Road is the designated detour route if State Highway 1 is closed between Mackays Crossing and Poplar Avenue, and the remedial work was joint-funded by the NZ Transport Agency and the Council
