Whirokino Project on Hold After Maori Remains Discovered

June 1, 2018

One part of the Whirokino Trestle road works project is on hold after Maori remains were discovered on the Horowhenua site.

NZ Herald reports that, work on the project has stopped due to further investigation.

Goodman’s Chief executive Stan Goodman says, “we're currently doing investigations to find out what's there, but it's too early to make too many comments.”

Goodman says, “he is unsure how long work would be halted in the affected area of the site.”

A meeting was held with iwi, NZ Transport Agency and Goodman’s on when the project will continue and where the remains will be moved.
