Pukerua Bay resident June Penhey (pictured second from the left, top row) is a local recipient of a Porirua Civic Award.
June has been a member of the Pukerua Bay Residents Association for more than 30 years and active in the suburb for 50 years. She was part of Porirua Community Guardians and is still a volunteer at the Kenepuru Hospital library.
Running annually since 1993, the awards are the city’s highest recognition for voluntary service and achievement, highlighting individuals who give up their time to contribute to the community.
Porirua Mayor Mike Tana said the civic awards were the perfect way to celeb rate people who give up their own time to make Porirua a better place to live.
