The Kāpiti Coast District Council Operations and Finance Committee decided yesterday to let the KiwiRiders sculpture fly for at least a year in the community.
The large sculpture, crafted by artist Will Clijsen, shows two children riding a stylised, flying Kiwi. It is made of stainless steel under bronze casting to weather long-term installation in a coastal climate.
Chair of the Operations and Finance Committee Councillor Michael Scott says that he is pleased to see the sculpture making Kāpiti Coast its home for the foreseeable future and adds that the Public Art Panel’s ongoing commitment to the community is appreciated.
KiwiRiders was the recipient of the 2011 Gold NZ Sculpture Design Award.
