Waikanae Boating club has secured a new 30-year lease, one year ahead of schedule.
Speaking on Beach FM recently, KCDC ward councilor and Chair of the Finance and Operations committee, Michael Scott says it now gives the club certainty for its proposed building and refurbishment plans.
Mr Scott says it marks a change for the council because they’re not being asked to fund it.
Rather, the proposed building for the Coastguard and Surf Club will funded from commercial partnerships.
Mr Scott says the council has secured the long-term lease which is on Department of Conservation land, and will give the Boating club security of tenure as they seek commercial funding for their building programme.
