5.2 Earthquake Widely Felt

A magnitude 5.2 earthquake, centred in Picton yesterday, was felt across central New Zealand.

 

The quake struck 20km east of Nelson, at a depth 73km, at 3.14pm, according to Geonet It described the shaking as "moderate".

 

Feedback to Beach FM’s Facebook page reported local residents describing the quake from ‘scary’ to ‘very light shaking’.

 

There have been no reports of damage.

 

More than 8000 people reported to have felt the earthquake, some as far away as Auckland and Christchurch.
