Kapiti Coast Mayor K Gurunathan says the Air Chathams family business model is a perfect fit for the region.
Speaking to Beach FM this morning, Mayor Guru says more than 4,300 people turned out for the Kapiti Airport Open Day yesterday - confirming the deep links the community has with the airport.
He says while the airport is privately owned, people in the region very much view it as theirs.
The Mayor welcomed the non-corporate, family-owned culture and style of Air Chathams, saying it’s a perfect fit for this community.
While prospects for growing the service were strong - given the catchment of travellers from the Kapiti Coast, Horowhenua and Porirua - the Mayor warns the community needs to support the airline.
“At the end of the day you must use it or lose it, we as a community must support it … I’m confident we’ve got a winner here and the prospect of expansion of passenger numbers is really good.”
Air Chathams officially begins its Paraparaumu to Auckland service on 20 August.
